There is a whisper in the neighborhood. Every knows that a boy has fallen. Hes dead. There is no going back. They heard the shots. All the neighbors gathered around the boy´s dead body: “He deserve it”, “maybe, he was doing something wrong”…

Thousands of young people have died in the past ten years in Medellín (Colombia) and almost all of them have been re-victimized by the people around them with the same sick whisper: Who knows what he was up to.

“No Copio” means to ignore the one who kills. There is no justification for murdering. When neighbors mutter over the dead young, they are empowering the murderer.

We try to appease our fear by finding reasons. We can´t conquer our fears by running away from the murdered. The only person who is wrong is the killer. Our first and most important agreement has to be not to kill us each other. Regardless of our origin or past.

“No Copio” is a campaign with no leaders, it is a campaign of artists, community-based organizations, writers, the youth, and all the people who thinks that we have failed to honor the memory of those have died. It is a campaign to denaturalize homicide.
